Rome's nightlife is less internationally famous than Berlin's or London's, but it rewards those who know where to look — and it has something those cities can never match: drinking Negronis on a rooftop with the Colosseum lit up in the background. Aperitivo culture is central to Roman nights: from around 6pm, bars across the city serve spritz, Negroni, or house wine alongside free snacks, and the terraces fill with Romans ending their working day in the best possible way. For a proper night out, Trastevere is the classic tourist-friendly option — cobblestone piazzas, outdoor bars and a buzzing energy on weekend evenings. Pigneto, further east, is more local and alternative. The EUR district in the south hosts some of Rome's best club venues, while the beaches at Ostia and Fregene draw Romans for outdoor parties in summer.

Trastevere is the most popular for tourists — lively piazzas and a good mix of bars. For a more local experience, Pigneto in the east is younger and more alternative. Testaccio has traditional Roman bars and some clubs.
